MEGATILE
Megatile is an off-shoot of our armor technologies and is our unique invention. World first very tough ceramic building material suitable for use as roofing (in substitution for metal, tiles or shingles) or as a wall cladding/curtain wall (in substitution for metal or stone).
It is characterized by:
- Material: Ceramic
- Extreme toughness/impact resistance: At least 100 times greater than conventional tiles.
- Size: 2m x 2m or more is feasible - the only limiting factor is the size of the kiln.
- Relative Density: 100%.
- As Fired Appearance: only slate.
- Treatment: Can be glazed, polished, cut (brick saw) and drilled (carbide tip).
- Raw Material Cost: About the same as conventional porcelain tiles.
- Production Infrastructure: Nothing out of the ordinary.
- Hardness: Similar to vitreous tiles.
- Strength: Similar to vitreous tiles.
- Permanence: 3 years exposure - no change.
Benefit For Manufacturers
- Low rate of breakage in transit.
- Fuel cost savings - Megatile is fired at 800oC to 900oC.
- Flexible firing conditions - Megatile can be fired under oxidation or reduction.
- New market opportunities - The material is sufficiently tough to be used as exterior panels that can be easily attached and are graffiti-proof and difficult to de-face or scratch.
In other respects, Megatile is similar to conventional de face, high quality ceramic tiles, specifically as regards the aesthetic features of glazing and polishing.
Megatile is not affected by long term exposure to sunlight or weathering.
